Yusuke is the toughest, roughest bully in Sarayashiki junior high. Not only is he the top fighter, making him rival to the always number two Kazuma Kuwabara, he also skips school on a regular basis, smokes, drinks, and gambles, all at 14. Too bad he dies in the first episode/chapter. The Grim Reaper turns out to be an oar riding ditz named Botan who offers Yusuke a second chance at life. After agreeing to a challenge to get his body back, Botan takes Yusuke to meet Koenma, ruler of the underworld (well, while his dad King Enma's out anyway) and still just a little kid in diapers. Yusuke is to hatch a special egg, it will only hatch after it feeds of his spiritual energy enough. Though there is good and bad spiritual energy. Yusuke must do good deeds to produce good energy so the beast inside the egg will help him back into his body. If he doesn't the beast will be evil and will consume him. Though, we never really get to see what the beast is, because Yusuke's house gets set on fire while his mom is out and when Keiko, one of the girls he teases a lot, but deep down they probably both like each other, rushes in to save his body, because, hey, without that, he's not coming back to life. So Koenma shows up and is all "Hey, I can save your girlfriend" and Yusuke's all "JUST DO IT YOU LITTLE JERK!" so Koenma uses all the good energy Yuusuke had been saving up and saves Keiko. Then he gets paged and finds out that Yusuke's got a free ride, because the ghosts are tired of him. Or something like that. But there's a condition, someone close to him's gotta kiss his sleeping body or it won't work. Kuwabara and Keiko get a message dream, Kuwabara promptly has a "WTF GAY DO NOT WANT" moment, Keiko gets distracted by her mom being in an accident, and Yusuke's mom, the third possibility is on a drinking binge and doesn't sleep when she does that. Thanks to a message from Botan, Keiko makes it in time and Yusuke pulls a Jesus! Yay! He goes into town the next day, and saves Kuwabara's kitten from losing an eye. The guy he beats up actually had a demon possessing him, who Yusuke catches and then Botan comes and says, "Hey, you've got some l33t skillz now, so you're gonna be a Spirit Detective". Yusuke's first mission is to retrieve 3 stolen articles from the spirit realm, the Orb of Baast, a soul stealing item that a demon named Goki stole so he could eat children's souls. Yusuke gives him a spirit gun in the mouth and that pretty much blows his head off. The second item is the Mirror of Forlorn Hope, a mirror that grants any wish...at the price of the wisher's life, stolen by Kurama. Though, Kurama only wants to use it to save the life of his human mother. Yusuke forfiets some of his life to the mirror as well as Kurama so Kurama will live and not sadden his human mother. The third item, the Sword of Shadows, a sword with the power to create an army of demons from whomever it cut, stolen by Hiei, who in turn, kidnapped Keiko and tried to turn her into a demon. Yusuke beat him by reflecting his spirit gun off the Mirror of Forlorn Hope and hit Hiei in the back, defeating him. Yusuke then goes and trains with an old lady master of spirit techniques called Genkai. When he comes back, he, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei have to go and kill some lame demons who are named after the four regional gods. They're trying to cause genocide by infecting humans with evil auras with these parasite bug things. Suzaku is the only one who causes Yusuke any trouble, but he beats the crap outta him anyway. Then he breaks the flute that was controlling the bugs and the day is saved! Next, he and Kuwabara go to rescue an ice madien, a demon who is being held captive because her tears are worth more in money than diamonds. They save her, but not before fighting the Toguro brothers, whom they assume they kill. They bust Yukina out, and Kuwabara falls in love with her. Yusuke finds out she's Hiei's twin sister. Nobody tells Kuwabara because he'd have a stroke. Wah-hey! Turns out the Toguro's aren't dead! Younger Toguro invites Yusuke to the Dark Tournament. Yusuke trains lots more with Genkai and then forms a tournament team consisting of himself, Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, and Genkai. There's fights, and they make it to the finals against, you guessed it, Team Toguro. Genkai dies so Yusuke can unleash his full potential. Oh, and hey, remember that spirit egg? It hatches! It hatches into an adorable little penguin thing with a scruffy!Yuusuke hairdo. It gets named Puu because that's the sound it makes. Yusuke fights in the final match against Younger Toguro. Kuwabara pretends to die so Yusuke will quit being emo about Genkai and kick some ass. He kills Toguro, who really only wanted a worthy opponent. Kuwabara gets up and Yusuke gets pissed about him faking. The prize from the Dark Tournament is any one wish they desire, and they all wish for Genkai back from the dead. Everyone goes back to the human world. Yusuke gets bored and a little torn up about Toguro. This is where I'm taking him from.

Personality wise, Yusuke is immoral, rude, crude, and won't hesitate to hit someone. He can be extremely perverted at times, often seen skirting girls at school, and has grabbed Keiko's boobs from behind "Hey Keiko! Guess who!". He's not generally a bad person, despite his actions. He's got a way with kids, and appears to entertain them from time to time. He cares about his friends, but he'd never admit to something so mushy. Yusuke's also a big fan of Martial Arts, and loves to go to tournament meets.
